Five wishes for Weeds season six

1. Much more of Shane's psychopathy
It was clear from the outset that Shane Botwin was unhinged. He's progressed from writing gangster raps about killing classmates ("I got rage in me. This is my way of venting.") to shooting pets and now killing a Mexican kingpin with a croquet mallet. Why? Because he couldn't find a golf club.

It would be disappointing to see this glossed over as an impulsive defense of his family or a phase. His complete transition from Strange Botwin to Patrick Bateman Jr. would be satisfying on a few levels. First, it would be an unambigious indictment of Nancy's parenting.

Sure, Silas is a pot dealer who dropped out of high school, but it is unlikely that he would have been markedly more successful in any other circumstance and while she has put her children in danger before she has always managed to wriggle out of tricky situations. But having Shane - once described by Nancy as the family's one shot at respectability - morph into a violent psychopath would send a clear message.

2. The end of Celia Hodes
Celia Hodes is one of least likable characters I've watched in some time. And she's survived one too many mistakes. She stole and destroyed $300,000 dollars of weed in the first season, pushing Nancy into slavery at the hands of U-Turn to save herself. She's tried to blackmail Nancy twice and ratted her out to the DEA - nearly getting both of them killed when her amateur surveillance attempts on behalf of the DEA are discovered. The fifth season ended with her stealing tens of thousands of dollars of weed from Silas and Doug.

While Weeds wouldn't be Weeds without the preposterous escapes its characters make, Celia Hodes has had one too many without any of the occasional redeeming acts the other characters make.

3. Less drama, more comedy
Yeah, I know my first two wishes were for one very serious storyline and the death of a character but I still think the series would do well to drop some of the melodrama. Andy, once one of the show's funniest characters, has been reduced into a two-dimensional, simpering puppy dog. It's time for the show to return to it's comedic roots and dump the soapy content that has been dominating the show for the last couple of seasons.

4. A series finale
The final episode of season three would have been a great end to the series. That shot of Nancy fleeing a blazing Agrestic on a segway was gold. While it's always tough to see a good series end, the last two seasons weren't a great idea. Unless Jenji Kohan can come up with a great new twist the humane thing to do is to put the series down before it gets worse.

With HBO lining up another suburban satire (The Big C) in the timeslot before Weeds the chance of curtains seems strong.

5. Dean in blackface again
"I thought I might go out on the town fo' a lil bit. White women been sweatin' be aaaall day." Hilarious.

"Are you sure I'll still be a virgin?"

On occasional trips to the doctor or dentist I read old women's magazines, just for the ads. The advertising is unlike any other and tampon ads are the most fascinating.

Slate presents an amazing collection here.
